2010 Procedure and Rules

 

The Event: Modeled after the MTV Music Awards, the New England Talent Awards (NETA) is a region wide event where the leading models, singers, and dancer throughout New England compete for a $2,000 grand prize and over 20 awards. It is the event that honors the best of the best in front of the entire professional talent and arts industry in New England. The 2010 NETA will be September 26 at the beautifully renovated Park Theater (also know as the RI Center for Performing Arts), 848 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920.

 

 


 

 

The Award Categories: There are 18 Division Awards in the event that fall under 3 Award Categories; Modeling, Singing, and Dancing. The Division Awards are:

 Modeling Category

1.      Best Female Model - This award is presented to the best overall female model. Talent points will be awarded for runway performance. Models may submit 2 print photos for judge consideration emailed to us by September 10. 6 Nominees, 3 Advances, 2 Byes.

 2.      Best Male Model -    This award is presented to the best overall male model. Talent points will be awarded for runway performance. 6 Nominees, 3 Advances, 2 Byes.

 3.      Best Runway Model- This award is presented to the best runway model. Talent points will be awarded for runway performance. 6 Nominees, 3 Advances, 2 Byes.

 4.      Best Print Model- This award is presented to the best print model. Nominees must email a digital portfolio no later than September 10, 2010. This will include a resume and up to 5 photos for judging. Talent points will be awarded based on portfolio presented, model is still expected to walk on stage during the show, crowd points are excluded. 6 Nominees, 3 Advances, 2 Byes.

 5.      Best Upcoming Model - This award is presented to the best model age 16 or older that is a new and upcoming talent who participated in their first professional event in 2010. Talent points will be awarded for runway performance. 6 Nominees, 3 Advances, 2 Byes.

 6.      Best Youth Model – This award is presented to the best model under the age of 16. Talent points will be awarded for runway performance. 6 Nominees, 3 Advances, 2 Byes.

 Dancing Category (all 2 min. routines)

1.      Best Adult Dancer - This award is presented to the best dancer over the age of 18. Talent points will be awarded for dance performance.  3 Nominees, 2 Advances, 1 Bye

 2.      Best Under 16 Dancer – This award is presented to the best dancer under the age of 16. Talent points will be awarded for dance performance. 3 Nominees, 2 Advances, 1 Bye.

 3.      Best Group Dancer – This award is presented to the best dance group. Talent points will be awarded for dance performance.  3 Nominees, 2 Advances, 1 Bye, 20 ticket min.

 Singing Category


1.      Best Female Singer - This award is presented to the best female singer. Talent points will be awarded for singing performance. 1 live musical instrument may accompany performance, performed by either the nominee or another party. 4 Nominees, 2 Advances, 2 Byes. 3 min routine.

2.      Best Male Singer - This award is presented to the best male singer. Talent points will be awarded for singing performance. 1 live musical instrument may accompany performance, performed by either the nominee or another party. 4 Nominees, 2 Advances, 2 Byes. 3 min routine.

3.      Best Under 16 Singer – This award is presented to the best singer under the age of 16. Talent points will be awarded for singing performance. 1 live musical instrument may accompany performance, performed by either the nominee or another party. 2 Nominees, 1 Advances, 1 Bye. 2 min routine.

4.      Best Group- This award is presented to the best singing group over two singers. Talent points will be awarded based on singing performance. 1 live musical instrument may accompany performance, performed by either the nominee or another party. 3 Nominees, 1 Advances, 2 Bye. 4 min routine. 20 ticket min.

5.      Best Upcoming Singer - This award is presented to the best singer over the age of 18 that is a new and upcoming talent who participated in their first professional event in 2008. Talent points will be awarded for singing performance. 1 live musical instrument may accompany performance, performed by either the nominee or another party. 3 Nominees, 1 Advances, 2 Byes. 3 min routine.

The Performances: Models will walk on stage 3 times during separate phases of the event. Suggested outfits are formal, casual, and summer, however the nominee may where whatever they choose.

 Dancers will perform a 2 minute routine. The final, fully cut, show track is to be submitted in the form of a MP3 and emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.  Requirements and Nominee Compensation:  There is no entrance fee to this event or any hidden charges. The only requirement is that all nominees have a minimum following of 10 people (which is determined by personal ticket sales, due by August 10, 2010 ). Any admission ticket that a nominee sells to the event after the first required 10, the nominee will be compensated 50% of the value. Tickets to the 2010 NETA are $20 and $30.  The last day for talent commission credit is September 10, 2010.

 

The Judges: Five judges will be selected for the NETA, one judge will be a professional in the Modeling business, one a professional in the Dancing business, one a professional in the Singing business, and 2 will be selected at large. Judges will not be publicly announced until the day of the live event. Selected judges may not have any known, direct, professional ties with any contestant to prevent bias.  

 

Judging Process: The judges will judge all nominees on a 4 base criteria:

1.      Talent  (Up to 10 Bonus Points) Nominees will earn up to a total of 10 bonus points based on their performance at the NETA. These points will be based on total performance, stage presence, and display of talent.

2.      Crowd Appeal  (Up to 2 Bonus Points)  Nominees will earn up to 2 bonus points for strong, positive crowd appeal and reaction towards their stage presence and performance.

3.      Marketable (Up to 1 Bonus Points) Nominees will earn 0.2 bonus points for every ticket sold after the required 10. All bonus tickets must be sold by date announced on consignment sheet.

4.      Professionalism (Up to 10 Deduction Points) Nominees will receive up to 10 deduction points for acts of poor professionalism during all NETA activities including Tardiness w/o prior notification or proper reasoning, Disrespecting fellow nominees, Disrespecting professional NETA staff, Vulgar Language/Actions in Public.

 The Live Event: The New England Talent Awards event itself is broken into 2 shows, the Preliminary Show and the Championship Show. The Preliminary Show will take place in the afternoon in which all nominees will compete in their selected division. The top scorers in the Preliminary Show for each Division Award will advance to the Championship Show which will take place later in the evening. The number of advances for each award is listed on our website.

Byes: Past NETA award winners and select talent who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments during the year will be awarded a bye to automatically appear in the Championship Show by the casting committee. The number of byes permitted is listed on our website.

Championship Show: The Championship Show is where all of the awards, including the $2,000 grand prize, will be presented. It is also the show where all of the guest presenters and special invited guests will be present. This show is divided into 3 parts, the Division Awards, the Category Awards, and the presentation of the NE Talent of the Year Award. The first part is awarding the division awards. During the Championship Show, all previous scores will be reset to 0. The nominee who scores the highest in the Championship Show for each division will be presented the award.

Category Awards: After all of the Division Awards have been presented, the 5 judges will then consider all of the award winners in each separate category, and cast a secret ballet to award the winner of the category. The judges will have 2 minutes to cast their ballot. The Division winner who receives the most votes will be declared the Award Winner for their category, ex 2010 Model of the Year.

 NE Talent of the Year: The judges will finally consider the 3 Category Winners and openly vote for one person to be the 2010 NE Talent of the Year and recipient of a $2,000 Grand Cash Prize.   

Ties: In the case of a tie of any award, the award will be determined by a secret ballot vote by the judges.    

 Producer: The NETA is produced and copyrighted by the Giovanni Calise Company, LLC. This is the same producer who brought the award winning GIOVANNI Fashion Concert to the New England region for 10 years selling out audiences as large 2,300, displaying over 800 models and talent on the live stage, and working with local and national designers such as Cache, Charlotte Rouse, and Old Navy.During the NETA, the producer has the ability to:

1. Cast the talent to participate in the NETA

2. Hand out up to 4 Producer's Choice Awards (these awards are separate from the $2,000 competition)

3. Manage any conflicts or disputes that may arise that is not listed above

4. PLEASE NOTE: The Producer has no control of judging or the outcome of the performance. Talent winners are judged solely by the assigned judges of the event. 

 

 



Day of the Event, September 26:

10:00 AM -Sound/Stage Checks - Dancers and Singers Check-in
12:00 PM- -Preliminary Show Talent Check-in
1:30 PM- Doors open to public for Preliminary Round
2:00 PM- Preliminary Show begins
5:00 PM- Preliminary Show ends (audience must clear out of arena)
5:30 PM- Championship Show Talent Check-in
5:30 PM- Presenter Sound Check
6:30 PM- Doors open for Championship Show (different admission ticket than the Prelims)
7:00 PM- Championship Show begins
